Organizational Structure

At its inception in the spring of 2000, nine thematic areas were identified as those that captured the then and enduring promise of genomics/proteomics to contribute to advances in prevention and treatment of disease: cancer genomics, pharmacogenomics, genomics of complex traits and disease, microbial pathogenomics, immunogenomics, stem cell genomics, structural genomics/proteomics, and genomics and bioethical, social and legal issues. Since these areas corresponded with extant institutes, centers and initiatives, the BMGC was organized as a virtual center with the responsibility to oversee and integrate the activities of these independent entities relevant to genomics.

The BMGC organizational diagram conveys the important relationships between the BMGC and supporting platforms.  Together, we aspire to be a regional center for academic and industrial research. By sharing information and technology, we are learning how to apply the vast amounts of information provided by sequencing of human, animal and microbial genomes to find new ways to treat and prevent disease. We invite collaboration from our colleagues in Minnesota's biomedical industries, and hope to foster the growth of biotechnology industry in our state.

Our web site and facilities are the hub of our center. Through our Web site we invite academic and corporate colleagues to learn about our structure, programs, and capabilities. Our research facilities, which feature cutting edge equipment and technologies, are available to all University faculty and Minnesota companies.
