BMGC Facilities and Services

The DNA Sequencing and Analysis Facility is designed to provide genetic analysis services to scientists at the University of Minnesota and the community.  The DNA Sequencing and Analysis Facility has state-of-the-art instrumentation and experienced staff for comprehensive solutions to your genetic analysis needs.

The Genotyping Facility employs state of the art equipment, Sequenom System including Biomek and Multimek robotic pipetting devices, 384 well ABI PCR machines, a chip spotting device, and a MALDI-TOFmass spectrometry system for determining the absolute mass of short DNA sequences amd am Affymetrix GeneChip Megallele System including Affymetrix GeneChip 3000 7G scanner, Fluidic Station 450, 640 GeneChip Hybridization oven, Computer work stations. These high-tech equipments form the core of the genotyping facility and enables throughputs in excess of 10,000 SNP genotypes per day to 10,000 SNPs per individual assay.

The Oligonucleotide & Peptide Synthesis Facility employs state of the art equipment, including ABI/Pioneer and 433A Peptide Synthesizers, ABI394 and Beckmann 1000 Oligo Nucleotide synthesizers, MALDI for QC and several Analytical and Preparatory HPLC systems for Purifications and QC. Synthesis Facility also offers off site (IDT) Synthesis of Nucleotides.

The Microarray Facility provides hybridization, scanning and basic data analysis services to University of Minnesota researchers for Affymetrix Genechip® catalog microarrays.  We also offer custom cDNA and oligo array printing and scanning services.  The facility stocks only Affymetrix Mouse 430 2.0, U133 + 2.0 and test arrays.  All other arrays are available by special order with minimum purchase required (usually 5 arrays).

The RNAi Core Facility at BMGC will provide University of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic and all affiliated investigators with easy, efficient and economical access to the latest in whole genome RNAi collections through the Open Access RNAi Program from Open Biosystems.  The facility will have on hand the Human and Mouse GIPZ Lentiviral shRNAmir libraries and the Human and Mouse TRC Lentiviral shRNA libraries.

The Online Ordering System has been adopted to replace the current paper ordering system used throughout the BMGC.  This new system will ensure order accuracy, provide user-friendly interfaces, and speed up the ordering process.  Please note that you must have a valid University ID to place orders on the new the system.  If you wish to order products from the RNAi Core Facility, please follow this link.
